Justin Foxworth has been named the Dillon County Veteran of the Year for 2024.
After graduating from Latta High School in 1997, Foxworth enlisted in the United States Navy.
Foxworth received his formal training at Recruit Training Command and Hospital Corpsman “A” School in Great Lakes, IL, Field Medical Service School Jacksonville, NC, and Surface Force Independent Duty Corpsman “C” School in San Diego, CA.
His assignments over the years include the following: Naval Hospital Pensacola, FL; USS ESSEX (LHD2) Sasebo, Japan; Naval Branch Health Clinic Sasebo, Japan; USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) San Diego, CA; 2D Marine Division (3D Battalion 9th Marines, 3D Battalion 6th Marines, and 22D Marine Expedition Unit Command Element); Transient Personnel Unit Norfolk, VA; USS GRAVELY (DDG 107) Norfolk, VA; and Naval Consolidated Brig Charleston, SC.
He was deployed in support of operation on Naval Warships in the 2nd, 5th, 6th, and 7th Fleets, with Marine Corps Units to Iraq and Afghanistan.
He also was on humanity missions on the hospital ship USNS Mercy and USS Essex.
He earned several awards during his 24 years active duty including the Navy Commendation Medal (6), the Navy Achievement Medal (5), the Good Conduct Medal (8), and various Unit and Service awards.
His warfare qualifications include the following Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (SW), Enlisted Air Warfare Specialist (AW), and Enlisted Fleet Marine Force Warfare Specialist (FMF).
Foxworth earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Science from Trident University International and a M.S. in Human Resource Management from Trident University International.
He currently serves Dillon County Coordinator and Rural Health and Nutrition Agent for Dillon and Marlboro counties.
He is a member of the Dillon County Revolutionary War 250 Committee.
