Minutes for Meeting from October 2024
Welcome/Opening Prayer/ Pledge of Allegiance – Glenn Greene
Approval of Minutes – Motion by Mike Tyler, 2nd by Jaime Vance
Financial Report – Wyman Gordan gave a large check which we extremely appreciate. No other expenditures for the month.
Private Board Update: Glenn welcomed Brian Mason attending on behalf of Teresa Mason. There is a tentative agreement on the Country Club. Talks have begun. Glad to have Lynn Carr back and Burt Rogers. Trolley for Tots will begin in Dillon this year. Our goal is to fill the Trolly with toys and gifts for our local DSS to distribute to Dillon County children.
Public Board Update – Mike Tyler reported that its time for boots on the ground regarding the country club. The project will be around $750k so we need to get to work on fundraising. We should have some legislative help as well. Our board will not oversee day-to-day operations. Mike suggested we put together a committee to determine the process from here. Our board needs for this to be a success to show we are serious about change in our county and can make things happen. At some point we want to recognize Brian and Teresa for their involvement and help.
County Administrator: Tim said there were 2 open slots for the Port Program. Chairwoman Detrice McCollum Dawkins is our Port representative this year. Regarding disaster recovery please continue to pray for everyone. Lots of EMS equipment lost. The county is moving forward with the new EMS/911 Center. Will have a code red system in place in a few weeks. We have many projects getting ready to happen. The county is updating their website. Working on parks throughout the county and things for seniors and children. Opioid settlement coming soon. Working with Trinity on how to spend it. It will come in over the next 10 years.
Economic Developer: Rodney also mentioned that insurance, taxes, etc. needs to be a part of the committee’s task for the country club. Port lunch is October 16th and we will take a bus. Projects – Sunlight project back on track, Project container still in the works-will be a transformational project heavily on investment and will not need many employees. This will not affect our current industry partners. Our loyalty lies with them.
Roundtable subjects: Mamie said federal money for training is coming. Andy said Cheraw is having jazz festival October 19-21st, NETC has a cross-country track team, new welding program in McBee. Jaime said McLeod is recruiting several positions, Tim mentioned the Methodist men are still collecting supplies for the storm. Cullen said he wants to stay involved with making Dillon County better. Tally said the city is recruiting hospitality. Police department is nearing completion. Market Pavilion will start next. Burt said we have a 11.5 million dollar waste water project. Looking to expand in West Dillon. Getting new meter reader equipment. Working on a storm drainage project and how to fund it. Master plan now for the Wellness Center and the newly acquired property behind it. New Elementary is being dedicated Friday. Have 6 new pickle ball courts at the high school. Brian Mason said there was about 20 acres at the golf course the city may be interested in. Let Teresa know about snacks for any events. May be a new project at 38 for a gas station. Ashley said HF sent pallets of supplies to the storm victims. The Community Committee is cleaning up in Latta today. HF will outfit packed stockings for Veterans at Christmas. Mike reiterated that we appreciate our current industry partners. NETC could be looking at dorms at some point. Thomas said they are wide open sending crews to the affected storm areas. Glenn also said how much we do appreciate our current industry, and we will do more for them.
