IN MEMORIAM: Dorothy Sue Benton

Dorothy Sue Benton, 85, of Floyd Dale, South Carolina, and The Florence Presbyterian Community, passed away on November 4, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert Thomas Sanderson and Rozella Moody Sanderson of Lake View, SC, her husband, Kever R. Benton of Floyd Dale, her brother Thomas Gerald Sanderson, and her sister Joyce Ann Sanderson Walker. She is survived by her brother, Billy Sanderson, and sisters, Martha Sanderson Thompson and Betty Jo Sanderson Carmichael.
Sue is also survived by her children, Susan Benton (Bill) Love, William Thomas Benton (Teresa), and Allison Benton-Jones (Schuyler), along with her cherished grandchildren: Trey Benton, Eryn Benton Bullock , Anna Benton Love Thigpen, John Kever Love, Benton S. Jones, and Carstenn W. Jones. In addition, she was blessed with many visits from her great-grandchildren, who adoringly referred to her as “Great Granny” and “GG.”
Sue enjoyed a long and successful career at Wix Corporation in Dillon, where she worked for over 20 years. Her dedication and exceptional work ethic ultimately earned her the position of Production Manager. Prior to her time at Wix, she enjoyed learning and taking various college classes at Francis Marion College (University) and enjoyed working at St. Eugene Hospital in Dillon, South Carolina.
In addition to her professional achievements, Sue exhibited a love and mastery for growing beautiful flowers, as well as amazing fruits and vegetables. She was a meticulous seamstress, an accomplished quilter, an avid reader, a collector of recipes and an exceptional cook!
Sue loved the Lord and cherished her time spent at Pyerian Baptist Church, Little Rock Baptist Church, and Lake View Baptist Church, where she thoroughly enjoyed teaching the ladies in the adult Sunday School class.
The family would like to thank all of the people we know and do not know who have helped Sue over the years. We especially would like to thank: The Florence Presbyterian Community Staff, The Mabry House Staff, Agape Hospice Staff, The Bethea Retirement Community Staff, Jeanette Pearce, Frances Petty, Brian Barbour, Natassia Green, Kate Jackson, and Sharon Hubbard.
A celebration of Sue’s life will be held in the chapel at Kannaday Funeral Home in Dillon, 1252 SC-57, Dillon, SC 29536, on Thursday November 7th at 4 PM, followed immediately by burial at Pyerian Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 3 to 4 PM. The family invites all who knew and loved her to join in honoring her memory.
