The Strength Of The Community

By Mayor Tally McCall
II have often heard, and firmly believe, that you can measure the strength of a community by how it treats its neighbors when they are in need.
Dillon is an exceptionally strong community that truly believes in helping its neighbors and showing brotherly love. It is with great pride, humility and gratitude that I have observed the support our community has given our neighbors in the areas devastated by Hurricane Helene at the end of September.
It is difficult to imagine the destruction and loss these communities are going through, even with our own community’s experiences with hurricanes and flooding storms. For these areas, this type of impact is unprecedented, and they need both the support and the prayers of us all.
The stories and the support pouring into these communities from Dillon are incredible. For the past two weeks there have been countless groups from local churches, governmental and civic organizations, businesses and individuals joining in this national effort of practical, emotional and spiritual support. They have been working together, selflessly giving of their time and energy, to collect supplies and drive them to the affected areas, as well as going in-person to help with the clean up efforts.
Beyond our willingness to share what we have with warm-hearted readiness, Dillon County is also full of Prayer Warriors of every denomination. At every event I have attended since the storm, there has been a prayer for the victims, the families and the areas touched by this storm, as well as for those who are going from all over the country to assist them. Please continue to pray for all of those touched by the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene and its aftermath.
It is important for everyone to recognize the strength and the good that we have to share here in Dillon. We are a community that pulls together to help others, not out of obligation, but out of neighborly love. We should all be proud of, and inspired by, the assistance that Dillon County has sent to our neighbors in this difficult time.
