Dillon County Station 9 (Oak Grove) Fire Department held a celebration on Saturday in recognition of their 41 years of service to the community and in honor of Larry Cox’s 40 years of service to the department. Cox was called a cornerstone of the department. He was praised for his dedication to the fire department, the community, and his willingness to help others by Firefighter Terry Weichel. He was also recognized for training many or of the firefighters in the county and this area of the state by Weichel and Tom Spivey, who called Cox dedicated and knowledgeable. Chief Jamie Gaddy called Cox “a role model.” Latta Firefighter Henry Brusnson said that Cox had been a faithful servant to the fire department and also to the Latta department. Several stories were shared of experiences with Cox on the fire department.
