A Sneak Peek At The City of Dillon Police Department Renovation

By Betsy Finklea
The City of Dillon Police Department will soon have a new location. The old First Bank Building, also known to some as the South Carolina National Bank building, is being renovated for a new police department. The building will be a vast improvement over their current location at the Dillon City-County Complex and will provide more space for officers, unify the department in one building, and bring a police presence to the middle of the downtown area.
The department is a sight to behold. The entrance for the public to the building will be from the Main Street side. There are several cubicles upon entering the building which will be shared by patrol officers. Then there are several offices for administrative staff and officers, a training room, and a break room. The colors accentuate the beauty of the building. There is an elevator that goes up to the top floor.
The staircase is the original and the original flooring is at the entrance to the stairs. The original wood is around the doors, and it was painted in keeping with the beauty of the building. There are several investigators offices, two interrogation rooms, the chief’s office which has an amazing view, a conference room, and two bathrooms, one of which has a shower in the event one is needed by an officer immediately. The colors upstairs also add to the overall charm of the renovation.
One of the murals that hung outside of the building will hang in the hall as it is a mural of the building that they will be occupying.
The building is still a work in progress, but the hope is that the police department could be moving in as soon as the end of the month. The finished product will be even more beautiful than what we now see.
A ribbon cutting/grand opening will be set some time after the building is complete.
