Tuesday should have been a happy day for Rashawn Aaron, a local Head Start teacher and owner/founder of The Village Educational Services, LLC.
The official opening of his Dillon Community Family Resource Center was set to happen Tuesday, and SCETV was coming to cover the celebration. It was to be the culmination of years of hard work that he has put into the community.
It didn’t happen. The event was postponed. Sadly, on Sunday, Mr. Aaron and his family were the victims of a crime that has left him displaced from his home and damaged his vehicles.
According to the incident report by First Sergeant Richard Lee, deputies were sent to Aaron’s home on McQueen Street in Dillon due to shots being fired. The report states that when the deputy arrived he found that one occupied vehicle, one unoccupied vehicle, and the residence had been shot.
Aaron’s children were inside one of the vehicles that was shot. They told the deputy that they were heading down McQueen Street when they thought they heard fireworks. They realized that the shots were directed at them and that their vehicle had been hit in the windshield. They told the deputy that they pulled in their yard and that the unknown suspects continued to fire at them from the direction of Sunflower Apartments. The family is now displaced from their home.
After all that Mr. Aaron has done for the community, now the community is being called upon to help him. Supporters have set up a Go Fund Me page (https://givebutter.com/Usd88o?fbclid=IwY2xjawFhMuFleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHU9Wit8Jpp0eGAVwR4IhcOrjlRtm6sITGDvKPBXItd0o1MLMzYqoO50mng_aem_1Wav0G4Jiji77qo2N_jlfQ), which will be shared on The Dillon County News page on Facebook. Other options to give include Cashapp: $TheVillageES and on Zelle at (843) 618-3782.
Mr. Aaron is known for the slogan, “It Takes A Village.” It will take a village to help get Mr. Aaron and his family back on track.
