Marlboro County defeated Mike McRae & Son Landscaping 26-0 in the 9- and 10-year old division of tackle football played at the City of Dillon Recreational Field on Monday, September 9 before a good crowd of spectators.
Marlboro County wasted little time in getting onto the scoreboard with 6 points early in the first quarter and added an 8-yard rushing touchdown by #24 with 46 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The 2-point conversion was good by #5 to give the visitors a 14-0 lead.
The Mike McRae & Son Landscaping team returned the kickoff to their own 47-yard line to give themselves good field position. However, after a Mike McRae runner was dropped in the backfield for a loss, Marlboro’s #4 intercepted a deflected pass.
Marlboro County’s #7 picked up 5 yards and with 4:50 remaining in the first half, Marlboro County’s #24 scored a 41-yard rushing touchdown. Mike McRae & Son Landscaping’s #1 dropped Marlboro County’s #5 in the backfield to stop the 2-point conversion. Marlboro County was up 20-0.
Marlboro County’s defense stopped the Mike McRae & Son Landscaping team and took over on downs on Mike McRae & Son Landscaping’s 49-yard line. Marlboro County’s $4 carried as time expired in the first half with Marlboro County on top 20-0.
Mike McRae & Son Landscaping took the opening kickoff of the second half and returned the pigskin to their own 45-yard line. Unable to move the football, the Mike McRae & Son Landscaping team punted and Marlboro took over on their own 40-yard line.
Time expired in the third quarter with no score to leave Marlboro County up by 20 points.
With 5:05 remaining in the game, Marlboro County’s #24 scampered 44 yards for a touchdown. Marlboro County’s #4 was stopped on the 2-point conversion attempt.
Neither team added a score in the final 5 minutes and 5 seconds of the game.
Mike McRae & Son Landscaping will play at Latta on Thursday, September 12, at 6:00 p.m.
