JAMBOREE: Darlington Shuts Out Latta

In the third game of the Jamboree of Champions played in Dillon on Friday, August 16, at the Dillon Memorial Stadium, the Darlington Falcons handed the Latta Vikings a 14-0 loss.
With 4:59 remaining in the first quarter, Darlington’s #9 scored a 7-yard touchdown to take a 6-0 lead. The PAT by #16 was good, and the Falcons led 7-0. Darlington’s Head Coach Jamie Johnson’s team was on the scoreboard. Coach Johnson took charge of the Falcons on January 12, 2023.
On fourth down, Latta was stopped on an incomplete pass, and Darlington took over on Latta’s 37-yard line.
After an 8-yard carry by the Falcons’ #4, a pass completion to Darlington’s #6 moved the football to Latta’s 19-yard line. Darlington’s #4 carried to Latta’s 9-yard line but there was a flag on the play against Darlington that placed the football back on Latta’s 19-yard line. Latta’s #4 intercepted a pass to stop the touchdown threat. After the first period of play, Darlington was up 7-0.
Darlington’s defensed prevailed, and Latta was forced to punt.
With 8:24 remaining in the second quarter, Darlington’s #9 scored. The PAT was good. Darlington was up 14-0.
Latta attempted a 32-yard field goal in the waning moments of the game that went wide right.
Although Latta dropped this game against the AAA Darlington team, Head Coach Brandon Iseman will have his 1-A Latta team ready for the opening game on Friday, August 23.
