The 2024 General Election in Dillon County had a huge turnout and was a history-making election.
With a huge early vote of 4,750 in the two weeks prior to the election, the election was poised to have a high turnout. Out of 16,921 eligible voters, 11,939 people exercised their right to vote. Fork had the highest percentage of voters participating with 89.89 percent, which was followed by East with 81.72 percent of the voters participating. All precincts had at least 55 percent of the voters participating and many had more than 70 percent of the voters participating. These can be seen in the statistics posted below.
VOTER TURNOUT STATISTICS
Dillon County Councilman for District Two Dennis Townsend became the first Republican to win a full four year term. He had previously had a historical win when he won to fill the unexpired term left vacant by the passing of Christopher Miller.
Sunday alcohol sales passed in the unincorporated areas of the county with 5,935 people voting in favor of the question and 3,918 people voting against it. This only affects the unincorporated areas. The Towns of Latta and Lake View would have to pass their own alcohol ordinance for Sunday sales within the town limits. The City of Dillon passed this in 2020.
Sheriff Jamie Hamilton won his first four year term as Sheriff. He was previously serving in the unexpired term left by the passing of Sheriff Douglas Pernell.
